Trout in the Classroom:
Thank you to all of our members who took the time to deliver trout eggs to the local schools. The children and teachers really enjoyed it which we saw first hand. We received some pictures from them we can share at the meetup. We appreciate all of the help!
Fly Rod Combo Raffles:
JSTU is having two separate drawings for an Orvis Clearwater 9 ft 5 wt and an Orvis Clearwater 9ft 9wt. This includes the fly rod, fly reel, and fly line! You do not want to miss the chance to win these rods as both have a retail value of over 429 dollars! We will be selling one ticket for 10 dollars each at our monthly meetups and events.

Fishing:
Fly Fisherman of the Year Contest 2026
Info & Submit: Tom D was able to represent JSTU at the Fly Fisherman of the Year contest. He came in fourth place in the finals - thanks for representing the chapter so well, Tom! This is a great time of year to go get some striped bass - hit the beaches and send us your catches!!
Remember to submit your New Jersey catches to our google form, tag us with pictures on your social media accounts, or submit them at the JSTU monthly meetups. Enter your fishy pictures to win a chance to represent JSTU at the New Jersey Fly Fisherman of the Year Contest at Shannon's private waters on the South Branch of the Raritan River.
Conservation
Raritan Wild and Scenic Designation
Our JSTU chapter was able to put our name on support of the Upper Raritan River Wild and Scenic River Study Act. This will allow the study of the Upper Raritan to eventually be included as some type of wild and scenic designation which provides more protection and funding. Toms River Cleanup - April 11th 2026 at 11 am
As a part of the 2026 Barnegat Bay Blitz we will be having a stream cleanup on the Toms River on April 11th at 11 am. Toms River Clean Communities will be providing trash bags, gloves, grabbers, and a trash pickup service again for us which we greatly appreciate. We will be making a day of this by fishing before and heading to Battle River Brewing after to hangout. If interested in fishing prior reach out to me at bryanpetersjerseyshoretu@gmail.com (848) 480-5504.
Toms River Restoration Plan
The Barnegat Bay Partnership has created a Toms River Watershed Protection and Restoration Plan that aims to enable stakeholders to identify high priority impairments in the watershed and develop strategies to reduce/eliminate them. Our team has met with the Wetland and Watershed Manager, Ceili Pestalozzi, to identify how JSTU can help with this for the future. There are many reasons why the Toms River needs help and why our chapter is in a good position to do so which include: the Toms being the largest sub watershed flowing into a struggling Barnegat Bay, the rapid over development of the town, history of pollution in the stream and area, striped bass habitat and habitat for other important aquatic species, our “home” trout water with an opportunity to fly fish for trout in Ocean County, and more. If you are interested in “boots on the ground” volunteer work or in creating a JSTU Toms River Plan Committee, reach out to me! bryanpetersjerseyshoretu@gmail.com (848) 480-5504 We can truly make a difference with this and hope to get as many involved as possible.
